At Signal hill animal clinic our veterinarians can provide numerous surgical procedures that range from routine to more advanced procedures. This includes spays, neuters, dental cleanings and most other soft tissue surgeries such as laceration repairs, abdominal surgeries and eye/ear surgeries. We are also equipped to perform some orthopedic surgeries. During surgery we are focused on providing the best pre-anesthetic screening, encompassing pain-management modalities and constant patient monitoring using current, safe surgical and anesthetic equipment techniques.

In the occurrence that the surgery your pet requires a complex operation with advanced equipment or training we can quickly and efficiently refer you to a specialist (board-certified veterinary surgeon).

What to Expect

Before we begin with your pet’s surgery we recommend conducting pre-surgical screening. Like you, our greatest concern is for the welfare of your pet. Before putting your pet under anesthesia, we will do a physical evaluation of your animal. However, many conditions including liver, kidney, and blood disorders cannot be detected unless blood tests are performed. Such tests become especially important before any kind of sedation or surgery. Therefore, we highly recommend blood screening before any surgical procedures. Our laboratory is fully equipped and we offer trained staff to perform these important blood tests. Results will be immediately available and reviewed by Dr. Wagner, Dr. Sweet, or Dr. LeBoldus prior to going forward with any anesthesia, sedation, and/or surgery.

Once it is safe to proceed, we will go ahead with the procedure while ensuring proper pain management to ensure the comfort and safety of your pet!

During Surgery

Once your pet has been safely sedated, the doctor will proceed with surgery, working swiftly and efficiently to achieve the best possible outcome. The entire time your pet is with us, our care team will be present to assist with surgery and monitor your companion’s well-being throughout the process. Our highly skilled, experienced veterinary technicians are adept at making sure our surgical patients remain safe at all times while in our care.

Post-Surgical Care

When your pet’s surgery is complete, he or she will be relocated to our peaceful recovery area to rest comfortably. A member of our team will contact you to let you know how the procedure went, explain any important findings and arrange a time for you to come retrieve your pet. In most cases, surgical patients are able to return home the same day as their procedure. When you arrive, we’ll take as much time as needed to explain our post-surgical care instructions and answer any questions that you may have.
