A compassionate and humane procedure for relieving your pet's chronic pain and discomfort.
Your pets are more than just companions. They are members of your family. For this reason, we understand how painful it is to consider euthanasia and other end-of-life care options for them. Euthanasia is the medical process of ending your pet’s life. Unfortunately, your cherished pet can’t live as long as you’d want them to. They can succumb to age-related illnesses, injuries, and diseases that cause severe pain and affect their lifestyle. To learn more about the process, please call us at 403-249-3411.
Euthanasia is completely painless. At Signal Hill Clinic we are very gentle with your cherished pet and we do everything to make them comfortable. Before the procedure, we encourage pet owners to bring a favourite toy or blanket to help their pet relax and feel more at home.
Euthanasia is a quick procedure that takes only minutes to complete. Because it goes by really fast we give pet owners time to say goodbye to their pet prior to starting the procedure. Euthanasia begins with administering a sedative, then an injection is given intravenously that stops your pet’s heart, lungs, and other vital organs.
Veterinarians generally recommend euthanasia when patients have a chronic condition and all treatments have been unsuccessful. From a medical standpoint, our team knows there are no other options available for your pet. As your pet’s guardian, you know them best and you can sense when their health is getting worse. You’ll notice your pet is depressed or withdrawn, doesn’t eat as much, hides more, and is less affectionate. These are all signs that your pet’s quality of life is low, which means they are nearing the end of their natural life. If your pet is having more bad days than good ones, it’s time to have a discussion with a veterinarian.
